Job Summary: The Licensing Associate (LA) will be responsible for various aspects of technology transfer for selected researchers at BIDMC. The LA will be responsible for initiating, negotiating and drafting agreements relating to faculty research and intellectual property. Agreements will include material transfer, sponsored research, joint invention, confidentiality and research licenses. LA will be responsible for managing the intellectual property portfolio of a number of investigators, under the supervision of the AD.

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Initiate, negotiate, and execute a variety of agreements including; Material Transfer, Sponsored Research, Joint Invention, Confidentiality, Research Reagent License, and increasingly more complex Agreements.
2. Work with investigators, under supervision of Associate Director to evaluate new invention disclosures. Interface with outside counsel to protect intellectual property (IP) arising from BIDMC. This would include prior art searching and assessment of market potential of the IP.
3. Design and execute, along with the Chief Business Ventures (CBV), and AD innovative methods for increasing licensing and collaborative research opportunities.
4. Market BIDMC IP by writing non-confidential marketing materials, and identifying appropriate commercial partners through research, networking, and communication with inventors.
5. Advise researchers on the preparation of reports of invention, and on matters related to the protection and dissemination of intellectual policy, consistent with BIDMC internal policies on research and technology transfer.

Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in MS biology, or MBA preferred.
2. 1-3 years related work experience required.
3. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

2. Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.

4. Team Work: Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.
5. Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
