Job Highlights: The TTO associate is responsible to the TTO director for the transfer to industry of MITRE’s technology and the development and implementation of commercialization plans consistent with the company’s public interest and FFRDC mission. The TTO associate is also tasked with the development of programs aimed at communicating and protecting the company’s intellectual property assets.
Key Functions: Develop external business relationships (e.g., venture capital firms, other investors) to enable technology transfer.
Actively build ties with MITRE’s technologists; evaluate opportunities to commercialize MITRE intellectual property (IP); maintain existing and develop new ties to local, regional, and national business entities to discover emerging technologies and seek opportunity to license MITRE technology.
Conduct technology commercialization operations, including marketing, licensing and administration.
Conduct all aspects of the licensing program – triage, marketing, negotiating and post licensing follow-up.
Pursue the scope, mission, and vision of TTO by developing relationships with internal and external entities.
Address issues related to IP and licensing, based on MITRE policy and relevant regulations etc.
Location: MA: Bedford Campus
Required Skills: Ability to synthesize technical knowledge and translate that knowledge into a technology transfer approach.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills as demonstrated by the ability to work effectively with a wide variety of individuals and groups, both internally and externally, including investors, CTOs, senior managers, and industry.
Demonstrated ability to engage externally across multiple levels to communicate effective messages.
Demonstrated success in protection of intellectual property and the execution technology transfer deals.
Demonstrated organizational and administrative skills, including the ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple assignments and large numbers of requests for information and assistance.
Strong ability to engage with staff to understand technology as developed and determine addressable market opportunities associated with it.
Superior sense of business ethics and skills to handle highly confidential materials and information required.
Preferred Qualifications: B.S. in engineering or science. Master’s degree in engineering, computer science or related degree preferred. MBA preferred.
10+ years experience in licensing and/or related technology commercialization positions of progressively increasing responsibility and authority.
Completion of AUTM or LES courses or equivalent
Previous experience in structuring financial business transactions.
Familiarity with patent law and government regulations related to intellectual property.
Experience with venture capital firms and deal structures
Minimum Education/ Experience: BS and 8 years related experience.
Travel Statement: *This position will require overnight travel up to 20 % of the time as well as some local travel.
Clearance: Not Required
Clearance Statement Security Clearance is not required for this initial assignment. However for future opportunities a government security investigation may be required.
