Claim Mapping Tool and Technology Opportunity Analysis
Location: Tufts University, Sackler room 216A, 145 Harrison Avenue, Boston, MA 02111.
Dear MATTO members,
Tony Strauss from Schwegman, Lundberg, Woessner & Kluth (SLWK), Minneapolis, MN is coming to speak to MATTO members on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 about a claim mapping tool and technology opportunity analysis.
Tony was a long time head of the University of Minnesota TTO with lots of licensing experience.
Talk Topics:
- Claim mapping - SLWK has developed a tool and a process for high throughput landscaping of technology spaces using claim by claim analysis. Papers and publications are also included in this analysis, not just patents. The outputs allow the graphical display of existing coverage, spaces where patent coverage is available, players in the field, and technology and patenting trends of the players. SLWK will describe the tool and process, and explain how it would be useful for universities.
- Technology opportunity analysis - SLWK has developed a model and web based application for go/no-go analysis of technology opportunities. This model evaluates the probability of success (patenting, licensing, product development, and sales) and the potential royalty income based on user entered ranges to accommodate uncertainty. SLWK believes the model could be applied anywhere in the pipeline, from disclosure triage through portfolio management, and could be used to orecast future income and check results vs. predictions.
Seminar attendance is free, however you need to RSVP to Barbara McNulty at bmcnulty@umassp.edu by April 24, 2009.
