Research funding continues to flow into the region’s labs that are working on nano and micro technologies. And investment follows into creative companies that are applying these technologies to real market needs. Our opening panel will discuss current investment strategies in the commercialization of nano and micro technologies from both federal and private perspectives. Our featured speakers are:
- Marc G. Stanley, Acting Director of the Technology Innovation Program at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. As Director of Advanced Technology Program at NIST, Marc oversaw research awards of over $230 million to companies undertaking nanotechnology research.
- Howard Berke, Executive Chairman and co-founder of Konarka Technologies and a member of the leadership team of Good Energies. At Konarka, Howard raised over $100 million to develop a nano-engineered solar cell. He recently joined the executive team at Good Energies a leading investor in the renewable energy industry.
- Josh Wolfe, Founding Partner & Managing Director, Lux Capital Management. Lux is a research-driven investment firm focused on seed and early stage investments in the physical and life sciences. Lux has been credited with introducing the first investment framework for nanotechnology.
Following our panel, we will feature the region’s most promising applications of nanotechnology and microtechnology, giving private and corporate investors a unique view of new companies and technologies ripe for investment and partnership. These early-stage companies are meeting real customer requirements today.
In a post-conference poster session, the spotlight will turn to research projects from local universities that could form the basis of a start-up company or a license.
