You are cordially invited to New Ventures & Biogen Idec Innovation Incubator (BI3) on April 5th, 2007.
The intention of this meeting is to increase MATTO members’ knowledge of BI3’s research and technology interests, as well as their technology in-licensing process. Emphasis will be placed on BI3’s interests in the neurological area.

Speaker bios:
RAINER FUCHS
VP and Executive Director, BI3
Rainer is a molecular biologist by training, with a Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry and a Masters in Microbiology. He has been with Biogen Idec since 2000 in various executive leadership roles, including co-head of Discovery Research and VP Informatics and Operations. Before joining Biogen, Rainer was Global Head of Lead Generation Informatics for Aventis Pharma. His experience in the biopharmaceutical industry includes senior leadership positions at Ariad Pharmaceuticals and Glaxo Wellcome. Prior to industry, Rainer was staff scientist at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL).
TOM ENGBER
Director, Pharmacology, BI3
Tom received his Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Pennsylvania. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship with Tom Chase at the NINDS and then moved into a tenure-track scientist position at NINDS. Prior to joining Biogen Idec 9 years ago, he worked as a Research Scientist at Cephalon for 4 years. At Biogen Idec, Tom has served as the lead pharmacologist and project leader on several key internal programs. He has also managed the Neuropharmacology and Discovery Neurobiology groups.
STEVEN BUSHELL
Director of Operations and Portfolio Planning, BI3
Steve is the Director of Operations and Portfolio Planning at Biogen-Idec and is responsible for portfolio and strategic planning for R&D. Prior to his current role, he was Senior Director and site-head of the Sanofi-Aventis Cambridge Genomics Center, a integrated functional genomics center with responsibility for the application of genomics sciences to target identification, biomarker discovery and compound mechanism of action studies. Steve has research and product development experience in drug discovery and diagnostics. He earned his Ph.D. in materials science and engineering from Northeastern University in 1992.
